Dr. Wanita is dedicated to caring for children and adolescents, and understanding the importance of family support in improving health outcomes. She completed her Medical Degree and Master's in Psychiatry at the University of Pretoria, earned a Fellowship in Psychiatry from The Colleges of Medicine of South Africa, and is a proud member of the Golden Key Society.
She is currently challenging herself by working as a psychiatry consultant at Steve Biko Hospital and Denmar Hospital in the late afternoons, while pursuing a sub-specialty certificate in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
Her approach emphasizes each patient's individualized and holistic treatment, aligned with up-to-date, evidence-based practices. Committed to advancing the mental health of families, she brings a confident and current approach to delivering the highest standard of care.
A psychiatrist, as a medical doctor with specialized expertise in the field of mental health, holds the responsibility of comprehensively assessing, diagnosing and formulating treatment plans for individuals grappling with mental illnesses. This encompasses the prescription of therapeutic interventions, including medications and various forms of psychotherapy. At the forefront of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team, the psychiatrist takes the lead role in coordinating care and judiciously refers patients to a diverse array of healthcare professionals, including clinical psychologists, occupational therapists, social workers, dietitians, and other mental health professionals or physical health therapists as integral components of a comprehensive treatment and management strategy.

We embrace a patient-centered approach, valuing each patient's uniqueness and specific needs, fostering their authentic selves. We also emphasize the importance of the family system in the long-term well-being of our patients. In our initial consultations, which usually span 60 to 90 minutes, we work collaboratively to develop personalized treatment plans. The duration may vary based on factors like age, parental input, the complexity of mental health conc, and the need for immediate therapeutic intervention.
Follow-up appointments are typically scheduled for 30 minutes.

Dr Wanita begins with a thorough assessment, followed by a detailed explanation of symptoms and diagnoses, as well as information about medications and their potential side effects.
